My Favorite Horse Photos I’ve Taken
No matter what phases I went through growing up, there were always two things that stuck with me: horses and photography. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to photograph some truly beautiful horses.
Meet Sky!
Sky is a very old horse (almost 40) that lives her best life at small ranch in Nashville, Georgia. She is very loved, and cherished. She’s also one of the sweetest horses I’ve ever photographed.
I love this photo because I used to work at this ranch part time, and this photo was taken while I was slowly walking towards her with a bucket of grain. (Notice how attentive she looks? She’s easily motivated by food, as most horses are.)
Before They Take The Arena
Although these two horses look calm, relaxed, and—dare I say—almost sleepy, don’t let their peaceful appearance fool you! Just 30 minutes after this photo was taken, these incredible bucking horses would be stepping into the arena to put on an exciting saddle bronc performance for the Nashville, Georgia community at a local rodeo.
Moments like this are one of my favorite parts of rodeo photography. There’s something special about capturing the quiet, peaceful side of these powerful horses before the energy and excitement of the rodeo begins. What looks like an ordinary moment can become a memorable photograph when you get to see the story behind it.
A little cowboy
This is one of those little moments that I love capturing. There’s something so sweet about seeing a young cowboy looking up at his horse with so much admiration. Moments like this remind me that a love for horses can start at such a young age. I love this photo because nothing seems forced. It’s a real raw moment that was captured at the perfect time.
Young cowboy photography always holds a special place in my heart. It’s genuine, timeless, and just plain adorable.
A Face Worth Remembering
This beautiful close-up pony portrait showcases a stunning therapy pony named Annie. Ponies may sometimes get a bad reputation for their aggressive, or mischievous behavior regardless of always looking so small and adorable. But I’m here to tell you that Annie is perhaps the most behaved and loving pony in all of South Georgia.
With her calm presence and gentle nature, she has helped create moments of comfort and connection for children with special needs and soldiers affected by PTSD.
Let The Bucking Begin!
There’s nothing quite like the energy of a rodeo, and this moment captured it perfectly. This photograph was taken at a local rodeo in Valdosta, Georgia, as a cowboy held on through an intense saddle bronc ride. The power of the bucking horse, the movement, and the determination of the rider all came together in one unforgettable moment. Rodeo Photography is one of my favorite ways to capture the excitement, grit, and tradition that make these events so special.
Little Cowgirl
Some of my favorite photographs are the ones that aren’t planned at all. This young cowgirl was simply out riding her horse at her ranch when she happened to look my way, just as the sun was setting behind her. The warm evening light, and her connection with her horse, came together to create a photograph that feels genuine and full of life.
Four Legged Companions
No fancy setting or elaborate pose was needed—just a girl, her animals, and a quiet moment on her family ranch.
I absolutely love visiting local ranches to photograph the ongoing life and beauty that these people get to wake up to every day. Sure, ranches are hard work, but it takes a special person with a big heart and immaculate dedication to keep them up and running. I hope I get to capture as many people in this field as I can with my camera. Because who doesn’t love a genuine photograph with their beloved four legged companions?
A Quiet Morning With A Gentle Giant
A quiet morning moment, captured just as he paused from his breakfast to look my way. The soft morning light and a curious glance made this simple moment one of my favorites.
I also love this picture because it reminds me of the western wall art from Hobby Lobby. I have bought so much home decor from them. I hope to one day fill my home and many others with my own western photography. (I’m still gonna shop at Hobby Lobby though!)
